CARTHAGE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
Hailing from just north of campus in Milwaukee, Joerres joined the Carthage men's cross country and track and field teams in the fall of 1970. As a sophomore on the cross country team, he earned All-American honors after placing 24th at the 1971 NAIA Cross Country National Championship, following a sixth-place finish at the CCIW Championship. A three-year captain of the cross country team, Jorres helped lead the 1971, 1972, and 1973 teams to top-five finishes at the NAIA National Championship meets.
He was once a holder of four track and field records at Carthage, owning the school record in the indoor two mile (9:22.3), outdoor three mile (14:29.0), outdoor 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:00.4), and the outdoor six mile (30:29.7) in 1972. Joerres would eventually break his 3,000-meter steeplechase record in 1973 with a time of 9:27.0, a qualifying time for the Olympic Trials the year prior leading up to the 1972 Olympics in Munich.
