From Streamwood, Ill., Rick Kehr is one of handful of Carthage athletes who made to the professional level and one of two to play in the National Football League’s Super Bowl. Kehr lettered four times as an offensive lineman (1977-80) and was named a first-team CoSIDA All-American and first-team All-CCIW in 1980. He earned second-team all-conference honors in 1979. Following graduation, Kehr was signed by the NFL St. Louis Cardinals and then played a few seasons for USFL Houston Gamblers. The NFL Washington Redskins signed Kehr as a free agent in 1987, and Kehr played on the 1989 Super Bowl championship team. He also lettered on the 1978 swimming team.
