Defensive end Randy Converse (1970-74) sits tied for the record for most fumble recoveries in a single season (7) in the Carthage football record books. A two-time all-CCIW first-team selection, Converse was named the team's defensive MVP in 1973. That season, Converse totaled 57 tackles and was named to the NAIA District 14 football team. Converse was also a member of the football team that won four consecutive conference championship titles. Converse was also a member of the track and field team winning the CCIW title in men's shot put at the 1973 conference championship.
