Box Score 2 The Carthage College baseball team (15-18, 8-10 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost both ends of a Saturday, April 27 doubleheader to CCIW-opponent and No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan University (26-7, 16-2 CCIW), 3-2 and 4-3, at Jack Horenberger Field in Bloomington, Ill.
The Titans swept the series after winning a 4-2 game on Friday night, April 26. With the three losses, the Red Men fell to fifth place in the league. North Central College (16-15, 8-9 CCIW), aided by a sweep of Millikin University on Saturday, moved into fourth place, a half-game ahead of Carthage in the standings.
In Saturday's opener, Red Men pitcher
Andrew Arenson (Jr., Naperville, Ill./North) had a no-hitter going through five and one-third innings before Zach Scott singled in the sixth. Arenson also lost the lead in the sixth as the Titans scored three times on an RBI-single by Kevin Callahan, a sacrifice fly by Nick Hahn and a Carthage infield error. Earlier, the Red Men had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI-grounder by
Brian Huntsinger. Carthage got a run back in the eighth on an RBI-single by Matt Cmiel for the final, 3-2 score.
Illinois Wesleyan pitcher Jeff Johnson (6-0) went the distance and allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits, a walk and nine strikeouts. Arenson (1-2) wound up allowing three runs on three hits, no walks and four strikeouts over six innings.
Sam Wilhelms worked the final two frames.
In the nightcap, the Red Men took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run double by
Mike Merritt. After, the Titans got single runs in the second and the fifth to tie the game, 2-2, Carthage re-gained the lead. 3-2, with a run in the seventh on a
Marc Mantucca single. In the Titan eighth, with pitcher
Jake Jewell on the hill in relief of Josh Daniels, Bobby Czarnowksi singled in the tying run, and Anthony Lopez followed with a run-scoring single to give IWU it final, 4-3 margin.
Nick Mehn (4-1) was the winning pitcher, and he allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits and walk. John Munyon blanked the Red Men in the ninth to earn his fourth save.
Jake Jewell (So., Muskego, Wis., 1-1) took the loss. Josh Daniels (Jr., Elk Grove, Ill.) went the first seven innings and allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk. Matt Cmiel,

The Red Men play host to non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 12-23) on Tuesday, April 30 in a 5 p.m. game at Augie Schnidt Field in Kenosha, Wis.
