Brendan Roberts Joins Chicago Dogs of The American Association

KENOSHA, Wis. – Carthage College senior pitcher Brendan Roberts is headed to the professional ranks after signing with the Chicago Dogs of the American Association, the organization announced recently.

Roberts becomes the latest Firebird to continue his baseball career professionally following a four-year career in Kenosha that saw him develop into one of the team's most reliable arms on the mound. Over 47 career appearances, Roberts compiled a 4.74 ERA while logging 207 innings and striking out 163 batters.

This past season, Roberts opened the year in dominant fashion, recording 21 strikeouts over his first three appearances. He later turned in one of his best outings of the season on April 25 against Elmhurst, striking out a season-high nine batters. Earlier in the year against Spalding on Feb. 27, Roberts showcased his command by issuing just one walk, his season low.

The Chicago Dogs compete in the American Association, one of the most historic names in professional baseball. Originally founded in 1902 as an independent minor league, the American Association featured several iconic franchises, including the St. Paul Apostles, Minneapolis Millers, Kansas City Cowboys and Indianapolis Indians. After joining the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues in 1903, the league became one of the most influential minor leagues in the country, with legends such as Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays all playing in American Association ballparks during their careers.

The modern American Association continues that tradition as one of the premier independent professional baseball leagues in North America, providing players opportunities to continue their careers and advance to affiliated Major League organizations.

Roberts and the Chicago Dogs are currently in action during the 2026 American Association season.
