Red Men Open a Three-Game Set wit Wheaton (Ill.) on Friday in Carol Stream, Ill.

Box Score The Carthage College baseball team (19-16, 7-11 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) got by non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 11-23), 12-9, on Wednesday night, May 2 at the new Falcon Field in Mequon, Wis., which was dedicated prior to the game.
 
Tyler Eickmeyer led off the game with a home run to give Carthage a quick, 1-0 lead.  A sacrifice fly by Concordia's Harry Steldt in the third tied the game, 1-1.  A two-run single by Mike Farias in the fourth inning gave the Red Men a 3-1 lead.  The Falcons scored two in the fourth to tie the game, 3-3, and Steldt's solo homer in the fifth gave them a 4-3 lead.  Eickmeyer's RBI-grounder in the sixth re-tied the game, 4-4. 

Carthage went back up, 6-4, in the seventh on a two-run single by Tanner Wensman.  The Red Men added two more runs in the eighth to make it 8-4.  The Falcons took advantage of strikeout/passed ball and walk in the eighth inning when pinch-hitter Matt Schroeder delivered a two-run single to cut the lead to 8-6.  Carthage tacked on four more runs in the ninth.  Zach Kozlowski hit a three-run double and then scored on a wild pitch.  Red Men pitcher Andy Pucher (Sr., Naperville, Ill./Central, 1-1) made things interesting in the ninth by surrendering three runs on four-straight two-out singles, along with a wild pitch.  Pucher finally got Nick Doedens to ground out for the final out to secure the win.  Pitcher Jeremy Salzman (So., Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) started the game and gave up four runs on seven hits and two walks over the first six innings.  Joel Sharon (1-3), the second-of-three Falcon pitcher, took the loss. 
 
Carthage's Tyler Eickmeyer (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) went two-for-five with two runs scored and two RBI, and Mike Gentile (So.. Grayslake, Ill./Central) had two hits in four trips, also with two runs scored.  On Friday, May 4, the Red Men open their final conference series of the year, taking on Wheaton College (Ill., 21-16, 10-8 CCIW) in a 3 p.m. contest at Lee Pfund Stadium at Legion Field in Carol Stream, Ill.
