Box Score The Carthage College baseball team (17-16, 7-11 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) salvaged the final game of a three-game series with CCIW-opponent Millikin University (10-25, 5-13 CCIW), 13-4, on Sunday, April 29 at Sunnyside Park in Decatur, Ill. Carthage lost both ends of a Saturday, April 28 doubleheader, 2-1 and 11-7. The Saturday losses all but eliminated the Red Men from qualifying for the CCIW Baseball Tournament. The last Carthage team not to reach the conference tournament was the 1988 squad, coach
Augie Schmidt IV's second year.

Kyle Pusateri and scored on an infield grounder by

Dan Weber.
Tyler Eickmeyer led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to tie things up, 2-2. The Red Men added six more runs in the inning to take an 8-2 lead.
Drew Bailey and Pusateri hit back-to-back doubles.
Mike Gentile hit an RBI-single to score Pusateri, and

Brian Huntsinger then singled in Aiello.
Tanner Wensman was hit by a pitch, and Eickmeyer, batting for the second time in the frame, hit a two-run triple. The Big Blue got a run back in the sixth to make it 8-3, and Carthage added four more runs in the eighth to make it a 12-3 contest. Millikin scored in the bottom of the eighth and Carthage in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring at 13-4.
Alex Newberry (Jr., Kenosha, Wis./Tremper, 3-1) was the winning pitcher for the Red Men. He allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings, while striking out eight batters.
Jon Kleinmeyer (Sr., Brookfield, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) worked the final four innings to earn his first save. Logan Bolton (2-8), the first-of-two Big Blue hurlers, took the loss.

Tyler Eickmeyer (Sr., Kenosha, Wis./Somers-Shoreland Lutheran) went two-for-six with two runs scored and three RBI.
Coming into Sunday's game, Carthage had an outside chance at the gaining the fourth-and-final berth in the CCIW Baseball Tournament. The Red Men would have had to win their final four conference games, and both Elmhurst College and Augustana College (Ill.) would have had to lose all of their remaining league games. However, Elmhurst defeated North Park, 7-5, in the second game of a Sunday doubleheader. The last Carthage team not to reach the conference tournament was the 1988 squad, coach
Augie Schmidt IV's second year.
Carthage plays host to non-conference opponent St. Norbert College (19-10) on Tuesday, May 1 in a 5 p.m. game at the Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha, Wis. The Green Knights were ranked fifth in the April 26 NCAA Division III Central Region poll.
