NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its 2024 Baseball All-Conference awards on Tuesday, with the Carthage College Firebirds well represented, including two major individual honors.
Collin Callahan was named the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Year after a standout campaign at the plate. Callahan hit .369 with 62 hits, 13 doubles, three triples, and eight home runs. He drove in 44 runs, drew 23 walks, and posted a .452 on-base percentage. Callahan is the first Carthage player to earn the conference's top individual honor since 2015. He was also named to the All-CCIW First Team.
Joining him was
Ryan Scanlon, who was named CCIW Pitcher of the Year. Scanlon went 6-1 with a 3.70 ERA across 56 innings pitched. He made 12 appearances, including nine starts, and struck out 62 batters — the second-most on the team. Scanlon is the first Carthage pitcher to receive the award since 2006 and was also selected to the First Team.
Also earning First Team honors were
Drew Knecht,
Zander Tubbs, and
Bryce Schaum.
Knecht led the Firebirds in batting average, hitting .388 with 50 hits, two doubles, six home runs, and 28 RBIs. He recorded a .543 slugging percentage in the regular season.
Tubbs was a force offensively throughout the year, finishing with a .348 average and a team-best 62 hits. He tallied 13 doubles, three triples, and 10 home runs, driving in 51 runs while posting a .602 slugging percentage and .401 on-base percentage.
Schaum anchored the Firebirds' pitching staff with a 3.41 ERA over 11 appearances, including four complete games. The right-hander led the team with 94 strikeouts across 68.2 innings.
Max Cairo and
Jake Hartman Jr. were named to the All-CCIW Second Team.
Cairo hit .304 across 40 games, totaling 45 hits, seven doubles, one triple, and 10 home runs — tied for the team lead with Tubbs. He added 35 RBIs and finished with a .568 slugging percentage and a .400 on-base percentage.
Hartman Jr. made 18 appearances on the mound, throwing 20.2 innings. He allowed just 10 hits and struck out 36 batters.
Trey Zastrow was named Carthage's recipient of the CCIW RESPECT Award, which recognizes student-athletes who exemplify leadership, character, and inclusivity on and off the field. Zastrow pitched 18 innings over five appearances, striking out 13.
Carthage opens the CCIW Tournament on Wednesday, May 7, against North Park. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
