Five Firebirds Earn D3baseball.com All-Region Honors; Schmidt Named Region Coach of the Year

KENOSHA — Five Carthage College baseball student-athletes were named to the 2025 D3baseball.com All-Region Eight Team, with head coach Augie Schmidt IV earning Regional Coach of the Year honors, as announced this week. Nominations for the awards were submitted by Sports Information Directors from participating institutions.

Zander Tubbs earned a spot on the All-Region Eight Second Team after a standout offensive season. Tubbs hit .330 with 58 hits, 11 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs, while driving in 52 runs and recording a .574 slugging percentage. Tubbs posted a season-best four-hit performance against Benedictine (Ill.) on April 28 and notched six RBIs versus Crown (Minn.) on March 13.

Bryce Schaum, a senior, also secured Second Team recognition following a dominant year on the mound. A two-time CCIW Pitcher of the Week and First Team All-CCIW selection, Schaum compiled a 7-4 record with a 3.09 ERA over 12 appearances. Schaum led the Firebirds with 102 strikeouts, including three double-digit strikeout games and a career-high 16 punchouts against Crown (Minn.) on March 13.

Joining Schaum on the Second Team was fellow pitcher Ryan Scanlon, who was named the 2025 CCIW Pitcher of the Year. The junior went 7-1 with a 3.18 ERA over 13 appearances and 10 starts. Scanlon fanned 73 batters in 65 innings, highlighted by an 11-strikeout complete game against Millikin on May 8.

Collin Callahan and Jake Hartman Jr. earned Third Team All-Region honors.

Callahan, the 2025 CCIW Hitter of the Year, batted .361 with 66 hits, including 13 doubles, three triples, and eight home runs. The senior drove in 45 runs, earned First Team All-CCIW honors, and was also recognized by ABCA/Rawlings on the All-Region Eight Team. Callahan recorded four hits against Millikin on April 18 and a two-home run, four-RBI game versus Wheaton (Ill.) on March 28.

Hartman Jr., a relief pitcher, anchored the Firebirds' bullpen. He appeared in 20 games, allowing only four earned runs and 15 hits over 22 2/3 innings for a 1.59 ERA. Hartman struck out 40 batters and was named Second Team All-CCIW and ABCA/Rawlings All-Region. His best outing came on February 28 with seven strikeouts across three innings.

In his final season at the helm, Augie Schmidt IV was named Region Eight Coach of the Year after leading Carthage to a 30-14 overall record and a 14-6 mark in CCIW play. Under Schmidt's leadership, the Firebirds posted the program's highest win total since 2018 and were nationally ranked at No. 30 in the ABCA Division III Coaches Poll on April 29. Carthage also ranked No. 19 in the nation in home runs per game (1.14) and No. 36 in slugging percentage (.480), compiling a 28-9 record from February through April.
