LA CROSSE/WHEATON - The Carthage men's track and field team continued their outdoor campaign with a split squad this week, sending the majority of the team to the Wheaton College Don Church Twilight meet, while also being represented at the Wis-La Crosse Phil Esten Challenge. The weekend was highlighted by a school record breaking performance in the 10,000 meter run from
Jacob Curulewski, who cruised past the previous record time at the Phil Esten Challenge.
SPRINTS
Dylan Parker won the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 48.82.
The 4x100 meter relay team, which showcased Christopher Seals, Shawn Rodgers, Luke Shugarman,and Parker, finished in second place with a time of 42.75 seconds.
Seals placed third in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 22.42 seconds. Shgarman placed eighth with a personal best performance at 22.62 seconds.
The 4x400 meter relay team, which was made up of Layne Rund, Parker, Shugarman, and Michael Barber, placed third in a time of 3:25.45.
Kedrick Johnson III placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 16.07 seconds
David Loess placed sixth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.66 seconds.
DISTANCE
Curulewski placed second in the 10,000m with a school record time of 30:04.56.*
Luke Davey won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:50.71. Harlan Matson placed second in a personal best 9:55.26. Topher Davis placed fourth in 10:01.23, while LJ Higgs placed fifth with a personal best finish at 10:09.40. Andrew Schaer placed eighth in a personal best time of 10:22.53.
Chase Upmann placed second in the 1,500m with a time of 4:01.36. Micah Anderson placed fifth in 4:05.05.
Charles Fitts placed third in the 10,000m at Wheaton with a personal best performance of 35:19.16.
Aidan Miller placed fourth in the 5,000m with a time of 16:42.72. Ryan Ciezczak placed sixth in 16:51.91.
JUMPS
Kedrick Johnson III won the triple jump with a mark of 13.45m.
Nick DeLuca placed second in the pole vault after clearing 4.00m.
Nnaemeka Obinna finished fifth in the long jump, registering a distance of 6.22m.
Rund placed eighth in the high jump after clearing 1.69m.
THROWS
Lucas Leal won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.43m. Jacob Brost placed second at 53.05m, while Tyler Rose completed the podium sweep for the Firebirds in the event with a third place finish at 47.80m.
Rose claimed the victory in the discus throw with a mark of 44.09m. Jordan Hughes placed fifth in the event with a throw of 37.83m. Leal placed seventh at 36.73m.
Brost placed second in the javelin throw with a mark of 54.60m.
Rose placed sixth in shot put with a mark of 13.22m.Â

- Curulewski moved up to third in the CCIW in the 10,000m with his 30:04.56 performance. Curulewski's time surpasses Logan Engberg (2018), who previously held the record at 30:33.90. Engberg's performance also came at the Phil Esten Challenge.
- Parker ranks fourth in the CCIW in the 400m with his 48.82 performance. Parker moved into sixth place on the Carthage all-time list in the event, passing Marshall Stewart (2011) at 48.84.
- Brost moved to sixth place in the CCIW with a mark of 53.05 meters in the hammer throw.
- Upmann ranks ninth in the CCIW in the 1,500m at 4:01.36.
- DeLuca ranks ninth in the pole vault at 4.00m.
- Davey entered the top 10 in the 3,000m steeplechase in the CCIW with a time of 9:50.71.
