WHEATON – The Carthage College women's track & field team returned to action at the Wheaton Don Church Twilight, hosted by Wheaton. The Firebirds also had Birds travel to Rock Island, Illinois, for the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana to compete in the multis.
Carthage finished in third place, scoring 152.5 points.
UChicago took the crown, scoring 201 points, while Wheaton took second, scoring 159.5 points.
SPRINTS
The Firebirds saw strong performances across the sprint events, highlighted by Maija Rantala's sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.83.
In the 400-meter dash, Shaylen Quinn and Mandy Nelson both scored for Carthage, placing fifth and eighth with times of 1:04.06 and 1:05.09, respectively.
Rylie Wilson added another top-five finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:13.79 to take fifth place.
DISTANCE
Jessie Pakaski turned in an impressive performance in the 1,500 meters, placing fourth with a time of 4:51.27.
Camryn Lau delivered a personal-best effort in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking 12:31.21 to earn fifth place.
In the 5,000 meters, Kylie Florance claimed the title dominantly, recording a personal-best time of 18:30.26.
JUMPS
Serena Coleman led the way in the high jump, clearing 1.37 meters to finish eighth.
Christina Hall captured first place in the long jump with a mark of 5.50 meters.
In the pole vault, Reese Teevan secured a fifth-place finish with a clearance of 2.95 meters.
The triple jump proved to be a strong event for the Firebirds, with three athletes scoring. Mara TenBrink paced the group with a runner-up finish (10.94 meters), while Lyla Unzicker and Tara Schaalma placed fifth and sixth with marks of 10.38 meters and 10.03 meters, respectively.
THROWS
Jackie Tuzil led Carthage in the discus throw, earning first place with a mark of 43.86 meters. Madison Payne and Lillian Townsend added to the team's success, placing third and seventh with throws of 37.71 meters (personal best) and 34.88 meters (season best).
The Firebirds dominated the hammer throw, with five athletes scoring. Madison Payne led the charge with a winning throw of 46.82 meters. Kaylee Floming and Tuzil followed in third and fourth with marks of 40.30 and 40.09 meters, while Rose Wagner and Ava Freund placed fifth and eighth at 39.83 and 38.35 meters.
Payne also contributed in the javelin, finishing fifth with a mark of 28.11 meters.
In the shot put, Payne again led the way with a season-best throw of 13.57 meters for fifth place. Townsend and Caylene Von-Schilling Worth placed third and fourth (12.07m, 11.88m), while Freund and Tuzil rounded out the scoring in fifth and sixth with marks of 11.75 meters (personal best) and 11.25 meters.
RELAYS
The 4x100-meter relay team of Anna Kegel, Kylie Kutner, Christina Hall, and Marisa Serpico delivered a strong performance, finishing second with a time of 50.35.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Kutner, Noelle Marsh, Nelson, and Quinn combined for a third-place finish, crossing the line in 4:16.94.
MULTIS
Three Firebirds competed in the heptathlon at the Meet of Champions. Julia Kraus led the group with a fifth-place finish, totaling 3,310 points.
Addison Huppert followed in eighth with a personal-best score of 3,260, while Grace Nisius placed 12th with 2,946 points.
NCAA Performance List
Jackie Tuzil currently ranks eighth on the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List in the discus throw.
Madison Payne moved up to 11th position on the 2026 NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List in the shot put.
CCIW Performance List
In the 10,000-meter run,
Kylie Florance is ranked third on the Outdoor CCIW Performance List with a time of 39:03.21.
Christina Hall ranks second in the long jump with a mark of 5.55 meters.
Madison Payne ranks first in both the shot put (13.57 meters) and the hammer throw (48.05 meters).
Lillian Townsend is currently third in the shot put with a mark of 12.83 meters.
In the discus throw,
Jackie Tuzil is ranked second with a mark of 45.79 meters.
Julia Kraus is ranked second in the heptathlon, scoring 3310 points.
