NAPERVILLE — The College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) announced its Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon, with Carthage freshman
Michael Ossenfort earning Hitter of the Week honors following a standout stretch at the plate.
A shortstop from Sioux Falls, S.D., Ossenfort powered the Firebirds' offense, batting .600 (12-for-20) with 11 runs scored, nine RBI and a 1.400 slugging percentage over five games. He launched five home runs during the week, highlighted by a four-home run performance in a series against Illinois Wesleyan, where he went 6-for-8.
Ossenfort capped the week with a dominant showing in Carthage's 15-3 victory over the Titans on Sunday, finishing 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI. Earlier in the week, he added a home run and a double in a doubleheader split against Lakeland.
The weekly honor marks the first of Ossenfort's career as the Firebirds begin the week playing Carroll (Wis.) at home on Tuesday, April 14 at 1 p.m.
