PLATTEVILLE/WHEATON - The Carthage men's track and field team continued their outdoor campaign with a split squad this past weekend, with some athletes competing at the Platteville Invitational, while others traveled to Wheaton College for the Wheaton College Invite. The highlight of the weekend came from
Jacob Curulewski, who broke his own record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:31.22. The distance runners collectively excelled with several significant personal bests, while the throwers showcased their dominance once again.
SPRINTS
The 4x100m relay consisting of Christopher Seals, Mac Anderson, Shawn Rodgers, and Dylan Parker placed fifth with a time of 42.83.
Anderson placed eighth in the 200m with a personal best time of 22.08.
DISTANCE
Curulewski broke his own school record in the 5,000m with a time of 14:31.22. Trevor Swanson also ran a personal best time by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 14:59.88. Derek Garmire ran 15:19.68 in the event taking over 40 seconds off his personal best. Luke Davey also ran a personal best time of 15:35.60, taking over 20 seconds off his previous personal best.
Chase Upmann placed second in the 800m with a time of 1:53.39.
Braydon Barth placed eighth in the 5000m with a personal best time of 16:02.61.
JUMPS
Nick DeLuca placed eighth in the pole vault with a personal best vault of 3.70m.
THROWS
Lucas Leal won the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 60.47m. Jacob Brost and Tyler Rose placed fourth and fifth in the event respectively. Brost threw 50.56m and Rose had a personal best mark of 50.26m.
Rose and Jordan Hughes placed third and seventh respectively in the discus throw with marks of 45.88m and 39.90m.
Rose placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 13.90m.
Brost placed seventh in the javelin throw with a mark of 50.29m.
- Leal moved into fourth place in the nation at the NCAA Division III level in the hammer throw at 60.47m. Leal moved into fourth on the Carthage all-time list in the event, passing Josh Brennan (2011) at 59.80m.
- Curulewski ranks third in the CCIW in the 5,000m with his school record breaking performance.
- Rose ranks seventh in the CCIW in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.26m.
- Anderson ranks eighth in the CCIW in th 200m with his 22.08 performance.
- Swanson moved up two spots to eighth place on the Carthage all-time list in the 5,000m with a time of 14:59.88, passing Jim Orsted (1980) at 15:05.74 and Hamilton Beal (2004) at 15:08.50.
"We had another really solid week with some outstanding 5ks at Platteville and strong marks at Wheaton," said Head Coach
Josh Henry. "We look forward to returning to Wheaton on a short week this Thursday."
