KENOSHA – The Carthage women's track & field team hosted the Firebird Finale at the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on Friday afternoon. It was a special day as the Firebirds celebrated their seniors with a Senior Day recognition ceremony before the meet began.
Sprints
Kristin Farabaugh and Caitlyn Hodgins placed fourth and fifth respectively in the 400 meter in personal best times of 1:04.48 and 1:04.72. Martanah Ward placed eighth in a personal best time of 1:06.69.
Addison Huppert placed fourth in the 200 meter with a time of 29.64. Janice Quainoo and Camella Lange finished fifth and sixth with personal best times of 29.71 and 29.83 respectively.
Distance
In the mile run the Firebirds took up the top eight spots with four athletes running personal bests. Kylie Smith led the way with a time of 5:25.64, followed by Jessie Pakaski with a personal best time of 5:31.58. Cori Cavanaugh was third in a personal best time of 5:48.54 with Arianna DeLeon in fourth in a personal best time of 5:51.99. Leela Desharnais finished in fifth in 6:01.50, Nia Litwiller sixth in 6:13.96, Katherine Mahoney seventh in 6:14.37, and Brooke Nez eighth in 6:26.46.
Cavanaugh won the 800 meter with a time of 2:36.36, followed by Claire Guenther in second with a time of 2:41.26. Evyn Fox placed third with a time of 2:47.48.
Three Firebirds finished in the top six of the 3000 meter with all three running personal bests. Katie Jerbi placed third with a time of 11:19.84, Kenzie Egert placed fourth with a time of 11:57.56 and Jackie Zaravia finished sixth with a time of 12:05.16.
Throws
The shot put saw five Firebirds place in the top eight. Madison Payne and Mikayla Wright placed third and fourth with marks of 13.32m and 12.53m respectively. The trio of Lillian Townsend, Jackie Tuzil, and Makensie Pearson finished sixth through eighth with marks of 11.62m, 11.59m, and 11.37m.
Nicole Tarpley placed second in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 18.20m. Madison Payne placed fifth with a personal best mark of 16.12m.
Jumps
Tara Schaalma placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 10.83m. Jadynn Kramer placed sixth with a mark of 9.66m.
Christina Hall placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.41m. Anna Kegel finished close behind in sixth with a mark of 5.38m.
Relay
The Firebirds relay team of Pakaski,
Julie Heinrichs, Jerbi, and Farabaugh finished in first place in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a time of 4:22.21.
The Firebirds squad had a day with personal records being broken. Fourteen Firebirds broke their personal records in their respective events.
Tarpley once again updated her mark on the top 10 Carthage performance list in the weight throw. Tarpley's mark of 18.20 meters remains at No. 6 with a farther mark from her previous mark of 18.05 meters.
Looking ahead three Firebirds will look to punch their tickets to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships; Abbey Calhoun in the triple jump, Payne in the shot put, and Tarpley in the weight throw. For more information,
