Upmann Returns with School Record as Men's Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season

NAPERVILLE/ST. LOUIS - The Carthage men's track & field opened up the outdoor season with a split squad this weekend at both the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis, Mo. and at the North Central College First Chance Meet in Naperville, Ill. The Firebirds were strong across all event groups as Chase Upmann set the tone for the outdoor portion of the schedule with a school record time in the 800m.

SPRINTS

Mac Anderson won the 100m with a time of 10.74 seconds.

Dylan Parker placed second in the 200m with a personal best time of 21.70 seconds.

The 4x100m relay consisting of Tre Mitchell III, Mac Anderson, Luke Shugarman, and Parker placed third with a time of 42.28 seconds.

David Loess placed eighth in the 400m Hurdles with a personal best time of 59.57 seconds.

The 4x400m relay, which showcased Adam Kedzior, Mitchell III, Michael Barber, and Michael Herres, placed seventh in the event with a time of 3:29.64.

DISTANCE

At WashU, Upmann broke the school record in the 800m run with a personal best time of 1:51.12. This was Upmann's first race with the Firebirds since Ma6 16, 2024. Upmann held the previous record at 1:52.43, which he ran at the CCIW Championships on May 3, 2024.

Jacob Curulewski ran a personal best time of 30:40.03 in the 10,000m at the WashU Distance Carnival.

Barber placed fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:57.88.

JUMPS

Kedzior placed 8th in the pole vault with a mark of 3.95m.

THROWS

Tyler Rose won the discus throw with a personal best mark of 46.54m.

Lucas Leal won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.86m. Jacob Brost placed seventh with a mark of 50.11m.

Rose also placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.05m. Jordan Hughes placed sixth in the event with a mark of 13.78m.

Brost won the javelin throw, registering a new personal best mark of 53.60m.

Leal's hammer throw mark of 58.86m currently ranks third in NCAA Division III, while also leading the CCIW in the event.
Upmann's 800m record ranks fifth in the country and the D-III level. Upmann also leads the CCIW in the event. Barber's time of 1:57.88 ranks third.
Rose ranks 16th in Division III in discus and 25th in shot put. He currently leads the conference in discus and ranks second in the shot put.
Curulewski's finishing time of 30:40.03 in the 10,000m ranks 26th in the nation. Curulewski ranks fifth in the CCIW. Curulewski remains in second place on the Carthage all-time performance list, while inching closer to catching Logan Engberg at 30:33.90 (2019).
Anderson's 100m performance of 10.74 seconds leads the CCIW.
Parker's mark of 21.70 seconds in the 200m leads the conference in the event. He now ranks third on the Carthage all-time list.
Brost enters the Carthage top-10 in the javelin throw with his throw of 53.60m. He ranks sixth on the list after passing Connor Bell's throw of 52.50m (2021).
