KENOSHA - The Carthage men's track and field team returned home this weekend hosting the Tadd Metzger Invitational in the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on Friday and Saturday. The Firebirds showcased a strong performance across all event groups in route to another team victory on the season. 



The Firebirds placed first overall out of eight collegiate teams with 179 points. Dubuque finished second with 115.50 points. Wheaton (Ill.) and Harper College tied for third with 108 points Benedictine (Ill.) rounded out the top 5 with 43.50 points. 



Sprints

Mac Anderson won the 200 meter in a season best time of 22.73. 

Christopher Seals placed 5th in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.65. 

The 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Adam Kedzior, Michael Barber, Michael Herres, and Dylan Parker won the event in 3:31.20. 

Distance

Jacob Curulewski and Derek Garmire got the running events started with a third and sixth place finish in the 3,000 meter run, finishing in personal best times of 8:48.09 and 9:03.76 respectively. 

24 team points came from the 600 meter run with Michael Herres leading the way with a time of 1:24.99 and winning the event. Michael Barber, Eli Fredrickson, Nicholas Kania, and Bo Anderson placed fourth through seventh with the following marks; 1:25.96, 1:29.28, 1:29.35, 1:29.42. 

Topher Davis and LJ Higgs placed second and third in the 800 meter with Davis running a time of 2:02.44 and Higgs running a personal best of 2:02.74. 

19 more team points came via the 1000 meter run with Micah Anderson finishing third, Harlan Matson fourth, Luke Davey fifth, Andrew Schaer sixth and Aiden Miller 8th. 

The Firebirds accumulated 26 team points in the 5000 meter run, placing second through sixth in the event. Braydon Barth was second with a personal best time of 16:06.42 and  Chad Helmke third in 16:11.42. Gabriel Johnson, Ryan Ciezczak and Jacob Varol placed fourth through sixth respectively. 

Jumps

Kedrick Johnson III placed third in the long jump with a personal best jump of 6.75 meters. 

Adam Kedzior had a season best vault of 4.10 meters placing second in the pole vault. 

Throws

Tyler Rose threw a personal best of 14.60 meters placing fourth in the shot put.

Rose and Lucas Leal went 1-2 in the Weight Throw with marks of 18.75m for Rose (personal best) and 18.45m for Leal. Jacob Brost and Jordan Hughes added three more team points finishing seventh and eighth with marks of 16.17m for Brost and 15.70m for Hughes (a personal best). 


 

• Rose jumped from 10th to fourth place on the Carthage all-time performance list with a throw of 18.75m, passing Greg Raimondi, Josh Brennen, Ross Buncheck, Eric Schmidt, Matt Ausse, and Aaron Austin. Rose now ranks ninth in Division III this season, two spots behind Leal who threw 18.96 at the Firebird First Invitational.
• Rose also moved into fifth place in the CCIW shot put rankings with a throw of 14.60m.
• Johnson III is ranked third in the CCIW with a mark of 6.75m in the long jump.
• Ma. Anderson now ranks eighth in the CCIW in the 200m with a converted time of 22.33.
• Kedzior is ranked ninth in the CCIW in the pole vault at 4.10m.

The Firebirds will be back in action Friday, Feb. 15 when they will travel to Whitewater, Wis to compete in the Midwest Elite Invitational at Wis-Whitewater. The Firebirds return to the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on February 28 when they will host the CCIW Indoor Track & Field Indoor Championships.
