Women’s Track and Field Takes Fifth Place at Midwest Elite Invite

WHITEWATER – The Carthage women's track and field team returned to action this week at Wis-Whitewater where they competed in the Midwest Elite Invitational. The Firebirds fought hard across all events and came away with a fifth place finish.

Team Results
 
The Firebirds placed fifth out of ten collegiate teams with 44 team points. WashU won the meet with 175.5 points, followed by Wis-La.Crosse in second with 152 points. Wis-Whitewater and Loras rounded out the top four with 80.5 and 74.5 points respectively. 
 
Who Led the Way

Distance

Kylie Florance won the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:29.99. Kaitlyn Jerbi placed fourth in the event with a time of 11:38.38. 

Jumps

Christina Hall placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.52 meters. 

Abbey Calhoun placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 11.56 meters. 

Throws

Madison Payne won the shot put with a personal best throw of 14.08 meters. Mikayla Wright placed eighth with a throw of 12.18 meters. 

Nicole Tarpley threw a personal best of 18.05 meters in the weight throw placing third.

Relays

The 4x400 relay consisting of Mandy Nelson, Julie Heinrichs, Kristin Farabaugh, and Tara Schaalma placed sixth in a season best time of 4:16.41. 


High Flyers

Payne's personal record shot put mark of 14.08 meters moves Payne up to fifth on the all-time performance list for Carthage. Payne previously was tied at sixth with 13.70 meters. Additionally, Payne's mark is now ranked third in the NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List. 


Tarpley's weight throw mark of 18.05 meters is a personal record and moves Tarpley to sixth in Carthage history. Tarpley previously was seventh with 17.63 meters. Additionally, Tarpley's mark is now ranked ninth in the Indoor Qualifying List. 
 
Up Next

The Firebirds will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 where they stay in Kenosha and head to Wis-Parkside where they will compete in the Parkside Classic.
