KENOSHA – The Carthage women's track and field team hosted the Firebird First Invitational in the Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on Saturday to kick off the 2025 portion of their indoor track season. The Firebirds battled hard and ultimately came away with a third place team finish.


 
The Firebirds placed third overall out of seven collegiate teams with 112 points. Wisconsin-Parkside won the meet with 133.50 points, with Wisconsin-Whitewater finishing second with 114.50. Rounding out the top five was Lake Forest with 74 points and Wisconsin Lutheran with 21 points. 
 


Sprints

Serena Coleman finished second place in the 400-meter with a personal best time of 1:08.58. 

The 55-meter hurdle squad combined 10 points with Julia Kraus finishing fifth with a time of 9.79. In sixth place was Grace Nisius with a time of 10.39 and right behind, Addison Huppert with a time of 10.96. 

Distance

Kaitlyn Jerbi opened up the scoring for the Firebirds with a third place finish in the 3000 meter with a time of 11:36.58.

The Firebirds excelled in the mile scoring 20 points. Kristin Farabaugh and Leela Desharnais led the way with a second and third place finish. Farabaugh finished within a time of 5:44.04 with Desharnais right behind in 5:44.61. Kenzie Egert ran 5:59.18 for sixth place. Nia Litwiller and Heather Wagner rounded out the scoring by finishing seventh and eighth with times of 6:08.97 and 6:17.36. 

Jumps

Christina Hall won the long jump with a personal best mark of 5.60 meters. Abigail Calhoun placed fourth with a jump of 5.27 meters with Anna Kegel finishing right behind for fifth with a mark of 5.18 meters. 

Abbey Calhoun finished in first place in the triple jump with a jump of 11.82 meters. 

Throws

The shot put resulted in four Firebirds scoring team points. Madison Payne threw 12.19 meters for second place. Mikayla Wright, Jackie Tuzil, and Makensie Pearson took fourth, fifth, and seventh place. 

In the weight throw the Firebirds scored 13 points. Nicole Tarpley threw 17.49 meters in a second place finish. Payne took fourth with a mark of 15.03 meters.




In the long jump, Hall jumped a personal best of 5.60 meters. This performance resulted in being ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III indoor qualifying list. Additionally Hall now ranks fifth in Carthage program history. 

Tarpley's performance in the weight throw reaching 17.49 meters resulted in an 11th place rank in NCAA Division III.
 


The Firebirds will be back in action Friday January 24 where they will travel to Ripon, Wis. to compete in the Ripon Hawk Opener at Ripon College. The Firebirds return to Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center on February 7 as the team will host the Tadd Metzger Invitational. For more information, vision athletics.carthage.edu.
