ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Carthage men's track & field team competed at Augustana College on Wednesday and Thursday at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier. It was the final opportunity for the Firebirds to achieve marks that will qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The Firebirds closed out last chance week with a handful of personal bests and a new school record.



Joseph White won discus with a throw of 57.43m. White also brought home the victory in the shot put with a mark of 18.13m.

Zebulon Turner placed second in the high jump with a clearing mark of 2.03m, a new season best.

Lucas Leal placed third in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 59.64m.

Jacob Curulewski broke the Carthage school record in the 5,000m, which had stood since 1980, with a fifth place finish in 14:35.65.



"We closed the season off strong with some big performances over the last two days," said Head Coach Josh Henry, "including a new school record in the 5k from Jacob. It's been a great year for this crew that has accomplished so much. Looking ahead to next week, Joseph and Lucas have punched their ticket to the NCAA Championships in Myrtle Beach and will have an opportunity to close off the 2024 campaign in style. It's been a great year to be a bird! Very proud of this group!"
