Men's Track & Field Claims Victory at First Outdoor Home Meet in Seven Years

KENOSHA - The Carthage men's track & field team hosted the Wisconsin Private College Championships at Art Keller Field on Thursday afternoon. It was a special day for the Firebirds, as it marked the first time that an outdoor track & field meet has been held on campus since the 2019 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Firebirds battled their way through a cold, rainy, and foggy meet to win the meet and go 4-0 at home this season.

SPRINTS

Jy'Lique Barnes won the 200m dash with a time of 23.47 seconds. Kaden Page finished in sixth place at 24.08 and Shawn Rodgers claimed seventh place at 24.13 seconds. Carthage tallied 15 points in the event.

The 4x100m relay team, which featured Christopher Seals, Landon Voye, Barnes, and Dylan Parker, won the event with a combined time of 42.82 seconds. 

Parker finished in second place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.71 seconds. Voye placed third at 11.01, while Seals placed fourth at 11.26. Austin Alexander placed eighth at 11.73 seconds as the Firebirds scored 20 points in the event.

The 4x400m relay team, which featured Kade Jaros, Page, Rodgers, and Evan Krahn, placed second with a finishing time of 3:35.35.

Krahn placed third in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.67, scoring six points.

DISTANCE

The Firebirds dominated the 10,000m, going 1-4 with Joey Kehoe leading the way in 35:26.84. Caleb Zabinski placed second at 35:41.54, while Connor Kenney placed third at 35:41.54. Angus McClellan rounded out the scoring four with a time of 38:59.19. Carthage claimed 29 points in the event.

Harlan Matson won the 3,000m steeplechase with a finishing time of 9:35.91. Andrew Schaer placed second in 9:41.23, while Luke Davey placed third at 9:54.23. LJ Higgs placed fifth in 10:05.98. Quinn Kelly and Gabe Johnson rounded out the top eight with Kelly running 10:10.39 and Johnson finishing in 10:38.79.

Ryan Ciezczak won the 5,000m race and scored 10 points with a finishing time of 16:56.75.

Joe Johnston placed sixth in the 800m with a time of 2:08.92. Mauricio Vega finished eighth at 2:10.49. The duo combined for four team points.

Michael Herres placed sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 4:11.57, while Tom Johnston placed eighth at 4:12.88. The Firebirds earned four team points.

JUMPS

Camron Foster won the high jump with a mark of 1.95m. Alexander placed second at 1.80m.

Nick DeLuca won the pole vault after clearing 4.05m. Joey Hagen placed second at 3.90m, while Zach Shoemaker placed sixth at 3.30m.

Ace Thomas won the long jump with a mark of 6.56m. Barnes placed third at 5.95m. 

Kedrick Johnson III won the triple jump with a 13.52m performance. Quentin Arceo placed second at 12.85m, while Kamren White placed fourth at 12.00m. Nick Szopinski rounded out the top five scorers at 10.01m.

THROWS

Tyler Rose won the shot put with a mark of 15.64m. Al Crema placed third at 13.94m. 

Rose also won the hammer throw with a mark of 55.02m. 

Caleb Haas-Rock placed fifth in the discus throw after marking a throw of 39.57m. Crema finished eighth at 37.67m.

Layne Rund finished in eighth place in javelin with a throw of 31.73m.


 
  • Rose ranks ninth in the hammer throw on the NCAA Division III lists at 55.02m. Rose also leads the conference in the event. 
  • Rose ranks 24th at the NCAA Division III level in the shot put at 15.64m. Rose also leads the CCIW in the event while Crema sits in eighth place in the conference.
  • Matson leads the CCIW in the 3,000m steeplechase at 9:35.91, while Schaer ranks second at 9:41.23. Davey ranks fifth in the event and Higgs ranks 10th.
  • The Firebirds have the second fastest time in the CCIW in the 4x100m relay at 42.82.
  • Johnson III moved up to fourth in the CCIW in the triple jump at 13.52m.
  • Carthage ranks fifth in the CCIW in the 4x400m relay at 3:35.35.
  • Thomas ranks fifth in the CCIW in the long jump at 6.56m.
  • Alexander ranks sixth in the high jump for the CCIW with a mark of 1.80m
  • DeLuca moved to sixth place in the pole vault in the CCIW at 4.05m, Hagen ranks ninth at 3.90m.
  • Parker ranks seventh in the CCIW in the 100m at 10.94 seconds, while Voye ranks 10th at 11.01.

The Firebirds will return to action on Thursday, April 9 as the squad heads to Elmhurst, Ill. to compete in the Chicagoland Championships at Elmhurst University.
