Women’s Track and Field Takes First in Season Opener

KENOSHA – The Carthage College women's track and field team opened the 2024-2025 season on home turf hosting the Forever Red Alumni Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Firebirds won the meet scoring 120.50 points.

Wis.-Parkside and Wheaton rounded out the top three spots scoring 102 and 86.

Distance
In the one mile run, Carthage had two Firebirds score points. Kylie Florance placed second running 5:40.29. Kaitlyn Jerbi clocked in 5:49.20 for a fifth place finish.

Sprints
Two Firebirds scored points in the 55 meter hurdles. Julia Kraus clocked in a time of 9.47 for a fourth place finish. In fifth place, Grace Nisius ran 10.32.

Teagan Johnston took sixth place in the 55 meter dash scoring one point and running 7.60.

In the 200 meter dash, Sarah Kerfin and Caitlyn Hodgins placed fourth and fifth clocking in 27.65 and 27.88.

The Firebirds relay team of Julie Heinrichs, Serena Coleman, Nisius, and Tara Schaalma took first place in the 4x400 meter relay clocking in a time of 4:20.26.

Jumps
Christina Hall took third place in the long jump with 5.45m

In the triple jump four Firebirds scored points. Abigail Calhoun jumped 11.86m for a first place finish. Schaalma took second place with 11.25m. Jadynn Kramer and Emma Kreuziger both jumped 9.94m for third and fourth place finishes.

Two Firebirds scored in the high jump. Johnston took fourth place with 1.57m and Nisius placed sixth with 1.47m.

Throws
The shot put resulted in four Firebirds scoring team points. Madison Payne took first place throwing 13.60m. Jackie Tuzil, Makensie Pearson, and Mikayla Wright took third, fourth, and fifth place.

In the weight throw, five Firebirds scored points. Nicole Tarpley threw 17.44m for a first place finish. Payne took second with 14.88m. Throwing 13.80m, Pearson took third place. Wright and Tuzil took fifth and sixth place throwing 13.52m and 13.33m.

Calhoun broke the indoor school record in the triple jump with 11.86m. The previous record of 11.50m, held by Calhoun herself, was set last season in 2023.

Tarpley's throw of 17.44m in the weight throw, places Tarpley at first on the North Region Indoor Performance Lists so far this 2025 indoor season.

Florence's mile performance was seven seconds faster than her previous time last year at this meet.

With Payne's throw of 13.60m in the shot put, Payne sits at third on the North Region Indoor Performance Lists so far this 2025 indoor season.

In the 4x400 meter relay, the Firebirds relay team ran three seconds faster than last year's performance.
