KENOSHA, Wis. - Following successful 2022-2023 campaigns for both Carthage women's cross country and women's track & field, the two programs combined to put five student-athletes on this year's 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Women's Track & Field/Cross Country teams.
Sophomore
Kylie Smith was the lone representative for women's cross country, though the Crystal Lake native also participates in track & field. Smith, a social work major and educational studies minor, earned all-conference honors in both cross country and track & field this year.
Four members of Carthage track & field joined Smith on the prestigious list, which recognizes the nation's best student-athletes for their combined performances while competing in athletics and while in the classroom. Joining Smith were junior thrower
Alyssa Gulsvig (physics), junior sprinter
Sarah Kerfin (business, marketing & management), junior thrower
Nicole Tarpley (elementary & special education), and sophomore sprinter
Teresa Topolski (graphic design).
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes cross country and track & field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 28.
