White Concludes NCAA National Outdoor Weekend with All-American Fourth Place Finish

ROCHESTER, NY. — On the final day of the National Outdoor Championship meet, Carthage College student-athlete Joseph White collected fourth place in the hammer throw for his second All-American performance of the weekend.

Competing in the second flight of the event, White threw 49.85m and 57.17m on his second and third throws advancing to the final round. On his first throw in the finals, White tossed his best attempt of the afternoon, measuring 59.18m. On his second throw of the finals, White threw 58.35m solidifying himself for fourth place.

"The last two days for Joseph can be summed up by the words of Nelson Mandela 'You either win or you learn,'" said assistant track and field coach Greg Raimondi

"Friday's results were a disappointment, but the better you get, the harder it is to stay on top. He had a choice to come in today defeated or prove that he deserved to be here.

After a very rough first two rounds, he snapped himself out of a bad mental spot and decided he wanted to show why he deserved to be there. He earned himself a place in the final and competed well to finish fourth.

While the marks and places on the weekend differed from what we had intended, the mental growth as a competitor will help him in his career. The last time he had a setback, he came back with a different passion, and I think this weekend will bring out a different Joseph White next year."
