White Grabs All-American Status in Discus at National Outdoor Meet

ROCHESTER, NY. — On the first day of the National Outdoor Championship meet, Carthage College men's track and field student-athlete Joseph White collected eighth place in the discus throw event on Thursday—the eighth-place finish awards White with All-American status.

Throwing in the first flight, White started with throws of 41.42m, 47.55m, and 49.57m to advance to the finals. White threw 46.73m in the final round for eighth place.

"After a very tough, competition-wise, outdoor season in the discus, I was happy to see Joseph compete well," commented Assistant Track and Field Coach Greg Raimondi. "His throw (of 49.57m) was his second-best of the season and was good enough to earn him his first All-American honors in the event. I am proud of him for staying calm to hit a third-round throw from flight one to earn a spot in the final. Managing a top throw of the season at a national meet highlights his growth over the last few weeks. Today's results will hopefully continue to build his confidence for the rest of the weekend as he prepares to compete in the shot and hammer."

White will return to the throws area tomorrow competing in the shot put event starting at 1 p.m. EST.
