KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carthage Firebirds women's track & field team earned a first-place finish this afternoon at the Firebird First Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The victory is Carthage's second of the young season, and comes after over a month off from competition due to winter break.
Three individuals placed first in their respective events, while the team's 4x400m relay team was also victorious.

"We are certainly moving in the right direction after a few weeks off from break. The team again had a great meet at home with many lifetime best and positive performances" said Carthage Firebirds head women's track & field coach

Anna Kegel led the sprints by winning a competitive 55-meter dash race in 7.41, which puts her at sixth on the top ten performances in the program's history in the 55-meter."

Christina Hall and
Abbey Calhoun led the jumps with second and third place finishes in the long jump, respectively. Christina jumped 17' 3.25" and Abbey jumped 17' 1.5", and both had great jumps for this early in the season."

Katelyn Smith had an outstanding performance in the 3000-meter run by finishing third and just missing a lifetime PR with a time of 11:01.08."

Aubrey Schoeneman and
Alexis Mattox continue to lead the throwers in the shot put and weight throw. Aubrey won the shot put with a throw of 43-5 3/4 and Lexi Mattox won the weight throw with a mark of 55-2 3/4."

- The Firebirds' next meet will be in Naperville, Illinois on Friday, January 20, as Carthage will partake in North Central's Snow Day Invitational.
