Ausse Highlights Final Regular Season Meet for Men’s Track and Field

5/19/2022 9:45:00 PM

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Sending a select group to the Augustana Midwest Twilight to compete on Thursday, the men's track and field team took to the track and throwing circles one last time before the NCAA National Championship meet, highlighted by Matthew Ausse setting a new school record in the hammer.

Head Coach Josh Henry

"We had a great throws day with yet another school record, this time coming from Matt Ausse in the hammer throw. I couldn't be happier for Matt to get this accomplishment. He has had an amazing year paired with Joseph's accomplishments, so for him to be able to put his name at the top of that record is well deserved. It held some extra significance as well, being assistant coach Greg Raimondi's record. Greg has done a fantastic job coaching Matt and the entire throws team for both the men and women this season."

"Cody had a great day in the 400-meters, and I'm super glad he can say he closed his career at Carthage with a lifetime best. He's an incredibly hard worker and someone we're going to miss a lot next year."

"The distance races were ok today. These guys have had a long year and it shows. They just didn't quite have the pop they needed today to take that next step. It's time for some well deserved rest before they get back into the summer training grind for the XC season."

"I'm excited for the NCAA Championships next week. Carthage will be well represented by both programs. Joseph and Matt are throwing their best at the right time and I'm confident we're going to close the season off in style."
