Greg Raimondi enters his seventh season as a Carthage College assistant track and field coach in the 2022-23 academic year, working specifically with throwers.
The 2017 season saw Raimondi guide three women to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship (Morgan Young, Elizabeth Willis and Mia Bennett), where weight thrower Bennett pulled down NCAA All-America honors. Four of Raimondi's field athletes also qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship (Morgan Young, Elanta Slowek, Mia Bennett and Sarah Schmidt), where they accounted for five NCAA All-America finishes. The Carthage women's team finished the 2017 outdoor championship tied for third place, the highest finish at the event in school history.
Raimondi guided four student-athletes to the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship (Mia Bennett, Elizabeth Willis, Sarah Schmidt, and Jake Menard), which ended with a women's championship in the weight throw for Mia Bennett. At the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the team collected NCAA All-America finishes in the hammer, the discus and the shot put.
The 2019 campaign also saw Raimondi's athletes claim two CCIW outdoor championships on the men's side and four (2 indoor, 2 outdoor) on the women's side. Raimondi guided Elizabeth Willis to NCAA All-America finishes in both the indoor shot put (3rd place) and the indoor weight throw (3rd place). The 2019 outdoor season resulted in a trio of NCAA All-America finishes courtesy of Sarah Schmidt (third place in shot put, seventh place in hammer throw) and Elizabeth Willis (fourth place in shot put).
The 2020 season saw Raimondi’s field athletes receive USTFCCA Indoor All-Region Honors, after claiming two CCIW Indoor Championships in the weight throw and shot put on the men’s and two in the same events on the women’s side. Three of Raimondi’s athletes qualified for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championship (Sarah Schmidt, Elizabeth Willis, and Aaron Austin). Raimondi guided Aaron Austin to a first place finish at the CCIW indoor championships while setting a new personal record, a Carthage school record, and a CCIW Conference Championship meet record.
In 2021 he helped both Matthew Ausse and Joseph White qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, with Ausse placing 13th in the hammer, and White 17th in the discus.
Raimondi's efforts landed him 2018 United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Indoor Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year. He followed that with the 2018 and 2019 USTFCCCA Division III Outdoor Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
Prior to Carthage, Raimondi had a two-year stint as a graduate assistant track and field coach/director of operations at NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University. Raimondi, who specializes in throwing events, helped coach 11 Missouri Valley Conference champions in various field events. He helped produce two NCAA champions in the shot put and the hammer throw in his two seasons with the Salukis. He also coached four Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Field Athletes.
Prior to Southern Illinois, Raimondi was the assistant track and field coach at Benedictine University (Ill.). His tenure with the Eagles included two national qualifiers, 16 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference champions and three NACC Field Athletes of the Year.
Raimondi holds USATF Level 1 & 2, USTFCCCA Throwing Event Specialist and USA Weightlifting certifications. He's also CSCS certified through the NSCA.
Raimondi was named CCIW Most Valuable Field Athlete twice during his four-year career with the Carthage men’s track and field program. He finished first in the shot put, the discus and the hammer throw at the 2012 CCIW Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Raimondi also finished first in the weight throw at the 2012 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championship. He currently holds the Carthage record for the hammer throw at 199'4" which he set it in 2012.
Raimondi, a native of Harwood Heights, Ill., graduated from Carthage in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sport science. He received his master’s in kinesiology from Southern Illinois in 2016.
