Falcons and Spartans On Tap For Red Men

 


KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's lacrosse team (4-1, 0-0 CCIW) will host a pair of opponents this week. The Red Men will face Concordia University (Wis.) on Tuesday, March 7 at 5:00 p.m., and will open CCIW play against University of Dubuque on Saturday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m.
 
Carthage ranks among the top-10 NCAA Division III men's lacrosse programs with 41 assists (9th), a .771 face-off winning percentage (7th) and 201 ground balls (8th). Andy Meyers' ranks fifth in the country with an .803 face-off winning percentage.
 
ABOUT CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY (WIS.) (3-1, 0-0 MLC)
 
The Falcons' lone blemish on the season is a 5-4 loss to Elmhurst College on March 1. Kellen Asmundson and Aidan Connolly pace the Concordia (Wis.) scoring attack with 13 points each. Goalkeeper Garrett Wohlford, who has started all four games, owns a .627 save percentage. His 5.06 goals against average ranks eighth in the country.
 
Concordia (Wis.) ended last season with a 12-5, 5-1 MLC mark, which secured them second place in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference. The Falcons eventually dropped a heartbreaking 13-11 decision against Aurora University in the 2016 MLC Championship Game.
 
As a team, Concordia (Wis.) ranks 10th in the country with a 4.75 scoring defense. The Red Men own a 4-3 all-time record against the Falcons, which includes a 7-6 loss last season.
 
Michael Fahey is in his fourth season as Falcon head men's lacrosse coach.
 
ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE (2-2, 0-0 CCIW)
 
The Spartans will enter their bout with Carthage off a 12-9 victory over Trine University on March 4. Matt Penalvert (12) and Josh Berry-Wingate (11) are the lone Dubuque players with double-digit points so far this season. Goalkeeper Kyle Mullins, who's started all four games this season, owns a .500 save percentage and a 14.23 goals against average.
 
The Red Men, who own a 3-0 all-time record against Dubuque, registered a 16-3 win over the Spartans last season.
 
Kasey Burst is in his second season as Dubuque head men's lacrosse coach.
 
The Spartans ended last season with a 2-11, 1-4 CCIW record, good enough for fifth place.

The Red Men will travel to Aurora University on Saturday, March 18 for a 3:00 p.m. game.
