The Carthage College baseball team (17-18, 7-11 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) opened a home-and-home series with non-conference opponent Concordia University (Wis., 18-15) on Tuesday, April 29 with an 11-1 win at Augie Schmidt Field in Kenosha, Wis.  The two teams meet again on Wednesday night, April 30 in a 6 p.m. game at Kapco Field in Mequon, Wis.
 
After Concordia scored a run in the top of the second, Carthage's Graham Wick (So., Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) blasted a three-run home run in the bottom half to give the Red Men a 3-1 lead.  Carthage broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning to take a 9-1 lead.  Reed Hero (Fr., Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) hit a two-run homer.  Matt Richer doubled in a run, Mike Pugliese singled in two, and Drew Bailey hit an RBI-double.  In the eighth inning, Jake Erfourth doubled in a run and Reed Hero followed with an RBI-single to put the Red Men up 11-1, and the game was called due to a 10-run rule.
 
Graham Wick led Carthage by going three-for-four with two runs scored  and three RBI.  Nick Schmdlkofer went three-for-five, and Hero had two hits in four trips with three RBI.  Pitcher Jeremy Saltzman (Sr., Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove, 2-1) was the winner with a complete-game effort.  Saltzman allowed just one unearned run on seven hits, three walks and five strikeouts over eight innings.  Michael Winter (1-1) took the loss.
