4/13/2014 5:41:00 PM

Box Score The Carthage College baseball team (13-11, 6-6 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin) blanked non-conference opponent the University of Chicago (5-17), 4-0, on Sunday, April 13 at J. Kyle Anderson Field in Chicago.

Carthage took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when Brian Huntsinger scored on an infield error.  That's the way things stayed until the Red Men scored three times in the top of the ninth.  After Carthage loaded the bases on singles by Nick Schmdlkofer and Drew Bailey and an infield error, Marc Mantucca hit a sacrifice fly.  Colin Dresen followed with an RBI-single, and Huntsinger scored on another infield error, the sixth of the day for the Maroons.

Schmdlkofer, Bailey and Jake Erfourth had two hits each.  Tim Sulik (Fr., Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI,  2-1) was the winning pitcher, as he shut out Chicago on three hits and a walk over the first six innings.  Mantucca pitched the seventh and eight frames, and Sam Wilhelms (Sr., Fond du Lac, Wis.) worked the ninth inning in a non-save situation.  Wilhelms tied a Carthage season record with his sixth save on Saturday versus Wheaton College (Ill.).

The Red Men travel to Loves Park, Ill., on Thursday, April 17 for a 3 p.m. non-conference game versus Rockford University (12-11) at Aviators Stadium.  The Rockford game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, April 15.
