Men's Tennis Sweeps UW-Oshkosh and Lawrence on March 3

Red Men Face Lake Forest and UW-Whitewater on Saturday in Elkhorn, Wis.

The Carthage College men's tennis team (8-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) traveled to Oshkosh, Wis., on Saturday, March 3 for a pair of indoor matches at the YMCA Tennis Center.  Carthage edged Wisconsin-Oshkosh (1-6), 5-4, before defeating Lawrence University (2-4) by an 8-4 margin.
 
In the win over Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 12-3), ranked 23rd nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and fifth in the Central Region, defeated the Titans' Bobby Brooks at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, and won over Lawrence's Jason Dunn, 6-3, 6-1.  Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 11-3) won over UW-Oshkosh's Kevin Lewis at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6., and defeated the Vikings' Max Zlevor, 6-2, 6-0.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 5-4) won both of his No. 3 singles matches, while Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 5-8) lost both of his No. 4 singles contests.  Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 8-8) split at No. 5 singles, as did Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 8-4) at No. 6 singles. 

The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (13-1), ranked sixth in the region was an 8-2 winner over Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Bobby Brooks/Kevin Lewis and an 8-4 winner over Lawrence's Jason Dunn/Max Zlevor.  Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (5-4) split, and the Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 3-6) won both of their contests.
 
Carthage travels to Elkhorn, Wis., on Saturday, March 10 to play a double-dual match at the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis.  The Red Men take on Lake Forest College at 12:30 p.m. and Wisconsin-Whitewater at 3:30 p.m.
