KENOSHA - The Carthage men's tennis team competed in the CCIW Individual Tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Smeds Tennis Center. The Firebirds had a strong showing, earning five individual flight championships, two runner-up finishes, and multiple third-place finishes across singles and doubles play.

In the Singles 1 bracket, Diego Silva opened with an 8-7 (11-9) loss to Santiago Diaz (Augustana). Silva moved to the consolation bracket and dropped an 8-7 (7-4) decision to Umar Bajwa (Illinois Wesleyan) in the consolation semifinals. Silva withdrew from the seventh-place match against Andrew Jang (Wheaton) due to injury.
Linus Bangert represented the Firebirds in the Singles 2 bracket, opening with an 8-5 victory over Andrew Winters (Wheaton). Bangert then defeated Andres Valverde (North Central) 8-4 in the semifinals before claiming the flight championship with a 6-2, 5-7, (10-5) victory over Saman Rezaeyan (Augustana).
Finn Morris also competed in Singles 2, earning an 8-6 win over Danile Canivez (Illinois Wesleyan) in the opening round. Morris fell 8-3 to Rezaeyan in the semifinals before defeating Valverde 6-4, 6-4 in the third-place match.
In the Singles 3 bracket, Cyriac Cayuela opened with an 8-7 (8-6) victory over Jorge Marcelo (Augustana). Cayuela followed with an 8-4 win over Hector Diaz (North Central) in the semifinals before defeating Antonio Spirken (Augustana) 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) to claim the flight championship.
Victor Pimenta competed in the Singles 4 bracket, cruising to an 8-1 victory over Nathan Christiansen (Carroll) in the opening round. Pimenta followed with another 8-1 win over Maxime Moreau (Millikin) in the semifinals before defeating Rafael Lessa (North Central) 6-1, 6-3 in the championship match.
Bernardo Born represented Carthage in Singles 5, opening with an 8-0 shutout of Brayden Richardson (Carroll). Born defeated David Villaroig (North Central) 8-5 in the semifinals before earning a 6-3, 5-7, (10-8) victory over Matthew Kordash (Millikin) in the finals.
In the Singles 6 bracket, Ethan Foucheaux opened with an 8-1 win over Elliot Mathew (Wheaton). Foucheaux then cruised past Brandon Paasch (North Central) 8-0 in the semifinals before defeating Facundo Feldman (Augustana) 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
Pedro Okino competed in the Singles 7 bracket, earning an 8-6 victory over Owen Collin (Illinois Wesleyan) in the first round. Okino fell 8-5 to Fernando Carrillo (Augustana) in the semifinals before defeating Grant Meyers (Augustana) 5-7, 6-0, (10-7) in the third-place match.
Payton Nelson opened Singles 7 with an 8-2 loss to Meyers (Augustana). Nelson then fell 8-7 (7-5) to Carson Leighton (Carroll) in the consolation semifinals before dropping a 7-2, 4-6, (10-8) decision to Paul Heuer (Millikin) in the seventh-place match.
In Singles 8, Paxton Ferruzzi opened with an 8-3 win over William Horton (Wheaton). Ferruzzi followed with an 8-3 semifinal victory over Milan Miskovic (North Central) before falling to Pedro Matos Nunus (Augustana) 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, (10-8) in the championship match.
Eelco Leenders also competed in Singles 8, earning an 8-2 victory over Chase Tomecki (Illinois Wesleyan) in the opening round. Leenders fell 8-4 to Matos Nunus in the semifinals before defeating Miskovic 6-2, 6-2 in the third-place match.
In Doubles 1, Morris and Silva opened with an 8-2 victory over Carroll. The duo then defeated Wheaton 8-3 in the semifinals before falling 8-7 (7-4) to Augustana in the championship match.
In the Doubles 2 bracket, Bangert and Foucheaux opened with an 8-2 win over Millikin before falling 8-6 to Augustana in the semifinals. The pair bounced back with a victory over another Augustana duo in the third-place match.
Born and Pimenta competed in Doubles 3, opening with an 8-3 victory over Carroll. The pair defeated Wheaton 8-4 in the semifinals before falling 8-2 to Millikin in the championship match.
Cayuela and Okino also competed in Doubles 3, earning an 8-4 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the opening round. The duo fell 8-2 to Millikin in the semifinals before dropping an 8-3 decision to Wheaton in the third-place match.
In Doubles 4, Nelson and Enzo Eimeke opened with an 8-2 loss to Millikin. The pair moved to the consolation bracket, earning an 8-3 victory over Wheaton in the consolation semifinals before defeating Carroll 8-5 in the consolation final.
