Carthage College Athletics

ST. PETER - The Carthage men's tennis team competed in the 2026 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament at Gustavus Adolphus from Friday through Sunday. The Firebirds were led by Bernardo Born, who advanced to the championship match of the B Singles bracket, while Linus Bangert and Diego Silva each reached the quarterfinals of the main draw.

 

ITA SINGLES BRACKET

First Round
Ethan Foucheaux fell to Ethan Ellor (Gustavus Adolphus), 6-2, 2-6, (11-9). Victor Pimenta won a 6-2, 7-6 decision against Keigo Kamata (Grinnell).

Second Round
Cyriac Cayuela defeated Sam Wolden (St. John's), 3-6, 6-0, (15-13), while Diego Silva defeated Carter Michaels (Wis.-Whitewater), 6-3, 6-5. Finn Morris fell to Rhys Biro-Moore (Luther), 6-3, 6-3, while Linus Bangert earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ryan Garland (St. Norbert). Pimenta fell to Quinn Monson (Gustavus Adolphus), 6-2, 5-7, (10-5).

Third Round
Cayuela fell to top-seeded Dominik Knutson (Gustavus Adolphus), 4-6, 6-1, (10-5). Silva defeated No. 3 Anthony Schulte (Coe), 6-2, 2-6, (10-8), while Bangert defeated David Klass (Wis.-Whitewater), 6-3, 6-1.

Round of 16
Silva fell to Devansh Punjabi (Grinnell), 6-4, 6-3, while Bangert dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to No. 2 Theo Billson (Wis.-Whitewater).

B SINGLES

Bernardo Born opened the B Singles bracket with a 6-5, 6-1 victory over Cathal Mee (St. Olaf). Born advanced with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mark Barton (Bethany Lutheran). Born defeated Kai Kringle (Coe), 6-0, 6-0. Born continued his run with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Josh Kruger (Grinnell). Born defeated Sam Murillo (Wis.-Eau Claire), 6-2, 6-2, to advance to the championship match. Born fell to Truman Vogel (Hamline), 7-6, 6-1, finishing as the runner-up in the B Singles bracket.

D SINGLES

Pedro Okino defeated Adam Culp (Wis.-Stout), 7-6, 6-5. Okino defeated Gianni Frausto (Wis.-La Crosse), 5-7, 6-4, (10-4), before falling to Drew Anderson (St. Scholastica), 6-4, 0-6, (10-4), in the semifinals.

ITA DOUBLES BRACKET

First Round
Linus Bangert and Ethan Foucheaux fell to Aiden Meixl and Brendon Sebring (Wis.-La Crosse), 8-7. Cyriac Cayuela and Pedro Okino defeated Cole Palese and Robert Matera (Wartburg), 8-5, while Diego Silva and Finn Morris earned an 8-6 victory over Karl Kimber and Rafael Carvalho (Gustavus Adolphus). Victor Pimenta and Bernardo Born fell to Theo Billson and Luke Blumentritt (Wis.-Whitewater), 8-2.

Second Round
Cayuela and Okino fell to Kyle Hehli and Aiden Meixl (Wis.-La Crosse), 8-3. Silva and Morris advanced with an 8-3 victory over Mateo Torre and Harry Stokes (St. Scholastica).

Third Round
Silva and Morris defeated Juan Hernandez and Rhys Biro-Moore (Luther), 8-6.

Quarterfinals
Silva and Morris fell to Anthony Schulte and Josh Tiemann (Coe), 8-5.
