Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carthage College baseball team (5-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) evened its season record at 5-5 on Friday, March 23 by sweeping a doubleheader from Nebraska Wesleyan University (2-12), 10-1 and 3-2, at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.

In the opening game, Carthage scored five times in the first inning, with Chris D'Angelo tripling in the final two runs.  After Nebraska Wesleyan scored in the second inning, the Red men came back with another run the bottom half on an RBI-single by Andrew Arenson.  Carthage struck again in the fourth, added two runs in the fifth and a final run in the sixth for the 10-1 margin.  Joey Aiello went three-for-four  with two RBI, and Arenson went two-for-four with a double and two RBI.  Danny Dahm (1-0) went the distance in the seven-inning game and limited the Prairie Wolves to one run on two hits and two walks, while striking out eight batters.  Levi Clifton (0-3) took the loss. 

In the nightcap, sacrifice flies in both the second and third innings gave Carthage a 2-0 lead.  Nebraska Wesleyan tied the game with single runs in the fourth and fifth.  The Red Men broke the tie in the sixth on a solo home run by Kyle Pusateri.  Pitcher Sam Wilhelms started the game and allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over four and one-third innings.  Jeremy Salzman (1-1) picked up the win by blanking the Prairie Wolves on two hits over the final two and two-thirds innings.  Josh Ostrom (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

Carthage concludes its spring trip on Saturday, March 24 with a single game against Middlebury College, beginning at 2 p.m., MST.
