The Carthage College men's tennis team (11-5, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) closed a four-match spring trip to Orlando, Fla., on Friday, March 23 with wins over Colorado College (4-6), 6-3, and Hope College (4-6), 5-4.
Carthage's
Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 16-6), ranked 14th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, won his No. 1 singles match over Colorado College's Nate Burt, 6-3, 6-4, and won over Hope's Bobby Cawood, 1-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 15-6) won over Colorado College's Will Lindsay at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-2, and defeated Hope's Parker Bussies, 6-2, 6-2.
Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 11-5) won both of his No. 3 singles matches.
Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 7-13) split at No. 4 singles, as did
Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 11-12) at No. 5 singles.
Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 9-10) lost both of at No. 6 singles contests.
The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman, ranked second in the region (19-2) defeated Colorado College but lost to Hope's Cawood and Gabe Casher by an 8-4 margin. Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (9-7) won both of their matches, but the Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and
Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 4-12) lost both.
Carthage travels to Crawfordsville, Ind., on Saturday-Sunday, March 31-April to play in the Wabash College Tournament.
