Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Carthage College softball team (6-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 21st in the March 14 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, ran its season-opening winning streak to six games on Monday, March 19 with wins over Augsburg College (3-9), 9-7, and 10-1 over Calvin College (2-3) in Tucson, Ariz.
 
In the Augsburg game, Carthage fell behind, 6-0, in the second inning.  The Lady Reds got two runs in the bottom of the second and five in the fourth to take a 7-6 lead.  Alyssa Schrader hit a three-run home run as part of that five-run fourth frame.  Carthage went up, 9-6, in the sixth on a two-run double by Alyse MikolasKatie Morman went two-for-four with a double and three RBI, while Mikolas went two-for-four with two RBI.  Starting pitcher Krystina Leazer (4-0) was the beneficiary, despite giving up seven runs on 11 hits.  Lindsay Helbach went four-for-four with three RBI for the Auggies.
 
Carthage took a 2-0 lead after three innings against Calvin, with Vicki Pyan hitting a solo home run in the third inning.  After the Knights scored a run in the fourth, the Lady Reds scored four times each in the fifth and sixth innings to win the game, 10-1.  Randi Rederer hit a two-run single in the fifth, and Olivia Scott launched a two-run homer in the sixth.  Scott went two-for-two with three runs scored and two RBI, while Rederer had two hits in three trips with three RBI.  Alyssa Schrader (2-0) was the winning pitcher, and she stopped Calvin on one unearned run and five hits.
 
On Tuesday, March 20, Carthage plays Carleton College at 1:30 p.m., MST, and Augsburg again at 3:30 p.m., MST.
