The Carthage College men's tennis team (9-3, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) split a Saturday, March 10 double-dual match at the Four Lakes Athletic Club in Elkhorn, Wis.  Carthage edged Lake Forest College (3-4), 5-4, before falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater (8-3) by an 8-1 margin. 
 
Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 13-5), ranked 23rd nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and fifth in the Central Region, lost both of his No. 1 singles matches, falling to Ryan Kreis from Lake Forest, Kreis winning, 2-6, 6-3, 10-5, and losing to Wisconsin-Whitewater's Byron Balkin, Balkin winning, 7-6(2), 7-5.  Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 13-4) won over the Foresters' John Adams at No. 2 singles, 7-6(3), 6-4, before losing to the Warhawks' Andrew Bayliss, Bayliss winning, 6-3, 6-1.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 7-5) split at No. 3 singles.  Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 6-10) lost both of his No. 4 singles contests.  Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 10-9) split at No. 5 singles, and Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 9-6) lost both of his No. 6 singles contests. 

The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman, ranked sixth in the region ran their record to 16-1 with an 8-4 win over Lake Forest and an 8-6 decision over Wisconsin-Whitewater's Byron Balkin and Mitch Osborne, ranked ninth in the region.  Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (6-6) lost both of their matches, while the Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 4-8) split.
 
Carthage opens a four-match spring trip to Orlando, Fla., on Monday, March 18 by taking on Luther College in a 12:30 p.m. match (all times EDT).  On Wednesday, March 21, the Red Men play Grinnell College at 9 a.m., followed by Friday, March 23 contests against Colorado College at 9 a.m. and Hope College at 4 p.m.
