The Carthage College men's tennis team (2-2, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) traveled to Winona, Wis., on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11 for a pair of matches at the St. Mary's University (Minn.) Tennis Center.  On Friday, Feb. 10, the Red Men edged Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-2), 5-4, before losing to Carleton College (3-1), 7-2, on Saturday, Feb. 11.
 
In the win over Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Carthage's Jeff Lotz Jr. (Jr., Racine, Wis., 8-2), ranked 23rd nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and fifth in the Central Region, defeated the Blugolds' Chris Kuna at No. 1 singles, 7-6(2), 6-2.   Daneric Hazelman (Sr., Lautoka, Fiji Islands, 6-2) won over Florent Marco at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2.  Matt Whiteside (Sr., Sacramento, Calif./Natomas Pacific Pathway Prep, 0-3) lost at No. 3 singles, as did Alex McLean (Sr., Belleville, Ill./West, 3-4) at No. 4 singles.  Nick Boomgarden (Sr., Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area, 6-4) was a winner at No. 5 singles, but Brian Howes (Jr., Bartlett, Ill., 5-1) fell at No. 6 singles.  The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (7-1), ranked sixth in the region was a winner over UW-Eau Claire, as was Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (2-1).  The Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Conor Moon (Fr., Sussex, Wis./Woodstock, Ill.-Marian Central Catholic, 0-3) lost to the Blugolds.
 
In the loss to Carleton, Lotz  (9-2) defeated the Knights' Peter Dunn at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4.   Hazelman (6-3) lost to Andrew Hwang at No. 2 singles, Hwang winning, 7-5, 6-4.  Whiteside (0-4) lost at No. 3 singles, as did McLean (3-5) at No. 4 singles, Boomgarden (6-5) at No. 5 singles and Howes (5-2) at No. 6 singles.  The Red Men's No. 1 doubles team of Lotz and Hazelman (8-1), was a winner over Carleton, but Carthage's No. 2 doubles team of Whiteside and Boomgarden (2-2) fell, as did the Red Men's No. 3 team of McLean and Moon (0-4).
 
Carthage travels to Fond du Lac, Wis., on Sunday, Feb. 19 for a double-dual match at Centre Court.  The Red Men take on Ripon College at 9:30 a.m. and Wisconsin-La Crosse at 1 p.m.
