Carthage Baseball Upended by North Park, 14-2, on May 7

Red Men and Vikings Conclude the Series on Sunday in Chicago

The Carthage College baseball team (25-13, 12-7 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked fourth in the May 5 NCAA Division III Central Regional poll, opened a three-game series with CCIW-opponent North Park University (26-12, 14-5 CCIW) with a 14-2 loss on Friday, May 7 in a 5 p.m. twilight game under the lights of the Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha, Wis. 

The Vikings, ranked sixth in the May 5 regional poll, totaled 14 runs on 11 hits and two errors, while the Red Men managed just two runs on three hits and five errors in a game that was halted after eight innings, due to a 10-run rule. Mike Giovenco (6-4) was the winning pitcher, and Chadd Ori (2-1) took the loss. Following North Park's Saturday commencement ceremonies, the two teams conclude the series on Sunday, May 9 with a 1 p.m. twinbill at the Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago. The Vikings were ranked sixth in the May 5 regional poll.
