Carthage Baseball Blanked by Aurora, 2-0, on March 27

The Carthage College baseball team (7-6, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 12th in the March 23 “D3baseball.com” poll, lost to Aurora University (7-5), 2-0, on Saturday, March 27 at the Carthage Baseball Field in Kenosha, Wis.

Carthage pitcher Mario Perez and Aurora hurler Steve Salazar matched zeros for the first four innings. Aurora broke a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Tim Mackey led off with an infield single and advanced two bases on a bunt and fly ball. Mackey scored on a ringing single to left by Anthony Amedei. The Spartans made it a 2-0 game in the sixth. Kirk Williamson led off with a base on balls, moved two bases on a stolen base and an infield grounder and scored on a triple to right-center by Steve Brauer.

Steve Salazar (3-0) stifled the Red Men on a one-hitter over nine innings, allowing only a single by Billy Herrin in the fourth. Salazar walked two batters and struck out six. Mario Perez (Jr., Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township, 1-2) took the loss. Perez gave up two runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five. Scott Danly (Sr., Wheaton, Ill./Warrenville-South) worked the final three innings and blanked the Spartans on two hits. Carthage entertains Rockford College (5-3) on Sunday, March 28 in a Noon contest, also at the Carthage Baseball Field.
