JANESVILLE - The Carthage College women's golf team traveled to Janesville, Wisconsin, to compete in the UW-Whitewater Spring Invite. Due to weather, second day competition was canceled. The Firebirds tied for ninth place, carding a 334 (+46).
Lexi Manteufel led the Firebirds in eighth place, carding a 77 (+5). In 43rd place, Emily Tralewski scored 85 (+13). Tying in 51st place, Mae Norman and Ro Longden scored 86 (+14). Madeline Midgett rounded out the Firebirds in 56th place, scoring 87.
The Firebirds' second team, led by Nina Mayfield, finished in 65th place, scoring 89 (+17). Tying in 79th place, Lauren Howe and Braelyn Davoust scored 91 (+19). Steda Lundak scored a 95 (+23) for an 88th place finish. Rounding out the Firebirds, Samantha Bocock placed 93rd and carded 100 (+28).
"It was great to see the team start to show signs of the form we had in the fall," said head coach Bill Buss. "The weather could have been the main theme with tornadoes and bitter cold winds, but overall, our ability to stay focused and hit the shots was the main theme for me. Lexi Manteufel has struggled in the wind in the past, but this weekend she struck the ball with confidence, and her putter was solid. Ro Longden and Mae Norman had their best tournament of the spring, and I am looking forward to seeing that continue as we have 3 tournaments in the next 9 days. Emily Tralewski followed up a good French Lick tournament with an even better showing this weekend. Her confidence is growing, and she has a great attitude. The B-team had some really good stretches of golf, highlighted by Steda Lundak, who hit the pin on the Par 3 3rd hole and left it 8 inches away for a great birdie.
The Firebirds will return to action Monday, April 20, at the Albion Invitational. For more information, visit our
