Big Week at the Plate Earns Ossenfort NCBWA Distinction

KENOSHA — After a record-setting week at the plate, Carthage College's Michael Ossenfort earned National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division III Hitter of the Week honors, the organization announced. The selections were based on games played through April 12.

A shortstop from Sioux Falls, S.D., Ossenfort powered the Firebirds' offense with a .600 batting average (12-for-20), scoring 11 runs while driving in nine and posting a 1.400 slugging percentage across five games. He tallied 14 hits overall, including five home runs, as part of a dominant offensive stretch.

Ossenfort highlighted his week with a historic performance in a series against Illinois Wesleyan, going 6-for-8 with four home runs. He closed the weekend with a standout effort in a 15-3 victory over the Titans on Sunday, finishing 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI.

Earlier in the week, Ossenfort added a home run and a double in a doubleheader split against Lakeland, continuing to anchor Carthage's lineup.

As a team, the Firebirds also etched their name into the record book, blasting five home runs in a single inning to set a new program mark against Illinois Wesleyan.

The NCBWA, founded in 1962, is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership includes writers, broadcasters and publicists, who participate in voting for national awards such as the Dick Howser Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America teams.
