Firebirds Sweep Regular Season Home Schedule With Win at Tadd Metzger

KENOSHA - The Carthage men's track & field team hosted the Tadd Metzger Invite & Multi on Friday and Saturday at the Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center Fieldhouse. It was a very strong day for the Firebirds as the team came away with its third win of the season and several personal best performances.

SPRINTS

Landon Voye won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.34 seconds. Christopher Seals placed seventh with a season best performance of 23.66 seconds.

Seals also placed second in the 55m dash with a season best time of 6.64 seconds.

Carthage ran three teams in the 4x400m relay, with the 'A' squad, which featured Layne Rund, Kade Jaros, Keegan Degoma, and Harlan Matson, placed second in a season best time of 3:32.92. The 'B' team placed fourth and the 'C' squad placed sixth.

Jaros placed sixth in the 400m with a personal best time of 53.84 seconds.

DISTANCE

The Firebirds swept the top four spots in the 800 and claimed 33 points in the event. Harlan Matson led the way with a first place finish and personal best time of 1:59.26, while Tom Johnston placed second in a personal best 1:59.98 and LJ Higgs finished third with a personal best time of 2:00.26. Joe Johnston rounded out the top four with a personal best 2:03.61.

The Firebirds also swept the top five spots in the 1,000m with Luke Davey leading the charge in a personal best 2:42.22. Quin Kelly finished second, also running a personal best time of 2:49.23. Joey Kehoe placed third in 2:51.77 while Angus McClellan placed fourth with a personal best time of 2:53.50. Robert Carroll rounded out the top 5 in a personal best 2:54.34. Connor Kenney finished off the scoring in the event for the Firebirds in eighth place. 

Jacob Curulewski won the mile in a personal best time of 4:22.58. Andrew Schaer placed second, also running a personal best in 4:25.17. Luke Davey placed third in a personal best time of 4:31.65. Chad Helmke placed fifth for the Firebirds, running a personal best 4:36.82.

Braydon Barth won the 3,000m in a personal best time of 9:12.89. Kehoe placed fifth in 9:42.15 while McClellan placed sixth in 9:42.23. Both performances were personal bests.

Eli Fredrickson placed second in the 600m with a personal best time of 1:27.41. AJ Ripper placed fourth in 1:29.48, with Diego Moreno placing fifth in 1:29.72. Mauricio Vega placed seventh in 1:31.55. The Firebirds scored 19 points in the event.

Gabriel Johnson placed second in the 5,000m in a time of 16:55.08, while Caleb Zabinski placed fourth in 17:19.69.

JUMPS

Hayden Rollins won the pole vault, clearing a mark of 4.51m. Micah O'Neal placed fifth at 4.06m, with Joey Hagen finishing sixth at 3.46m and Zach Shoemaker placing seventh at 3.01m.

Camron Foster placed second in the triple jump at 13.85m, with Euphrates Willis finishing just behind in third at 13.50m. Anthony Rice placed fifth at 12.69m. Quentin Arceo rounded out the scoring for Carthage in the event in seventh place at 12.64m.

In the high jump, Rund placed third at 1.88m, while Austin Alexander placed fourth at 1.83m. Calvin Martin placed eighth at 1.68m.

THROWS

Tyler Rose won the weight throw with a mark of 19.19m. Caleb Haas-Rock placed third at 15.46m, while Roy Jones placed seventh at 13.83m.

Rose finished in second place in the shot put with a throw of 15.92m. Al Crema placed third at 13.34m with Jones placing fourth at 13.26m.


 
  • Curulewski ranks third in the CCIW in the mile at 4:19.28#, while Schaer ranks eighth at 4:21.83.
  • Matson ranks sixth in the 800m in the CCIW at 1:57.58#. T. Johnston ranks 10th at 1:58.29#.
  • Willis ranks ninth in the CCIW in the triple jump at 13.50m.

"I feel like this was our strongest meet this season as a team," said Head Coach Josh Henry. "We saw a lot of athletes take some big steps forward and our team depth was on display today.  We still can be a lot better but are on a great trajectory as we approach the back half of the indoor season."



Carthage men's track & field returns to action on Feb. 13-14 at the Midwest Elite Invitational hosted by Wis-Whitewater in Whitewater, Wis.
