BLOOMINGTON - The Carthage men's track & field team competed in the first day of the 2026 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships in the Illinois Wesleyan University Shirk Center on Friday. The Firebirds got off to a strong start, claiming two individual titles and sitting in second place on the team scoreboard heading into the final day.

SPRINTS

Landon Voye qualified for finals in the 60m prelim, clocking the fastest time of the day and improving his school record with a time of 6.81 seconds.

DISTANCE

Jacob Curulewski won the 5,000m with a time of 14:44.46.* Curulewski defeated the remainder of the field by 23 seconds. Andrew Schaer placed eighth for the Firebirds in 15:45.10. The duo scored nine points for the team.

The distance medley relay squad, which featured LJ Higgs, Layne Rund, Michael Herres, and Harlan Matson, placed fourth in a season best time of 10:32.54.*

JUMPS

Hayden Rollins placed second in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 4.56m and scoring eight points for the Firebirds.*

Kedrick Johnson III placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.67m.* Johnson scored three points for the Firebirds.

THROWS

Tyler Rose won the weight throw with a mark of 18.68m.* Rose scored 10 points for the squad.

Carthage men's track & field returns to action tomorrow, Feb. 28, in the final day of the 2026 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Shirk Center.
