KENOSHA – The Carthage women's track & field team returned back from winter break hosting the Firebird First Invite. The Firebirds delivered a strong, well-rounded performance on the track and in the field, finishing second overall with 170 points at the meet. Carthage pushed the pace across multiple event groups, earning victories in distance races, throws, and key individual events while piling up valuable points throughout the day.
The Firebirds placed second, scoring 170 points.
UW-Parkside took first place, scoring 198 points. UW-Whitewater rounded out the top three teams, scoring 98 points.
DISTANCE
Mandy Nelson and Rylie Wilson led the Firebirds in the 800 meter run. Nelson took first place, finishing in 2:28.19 (personal record). Finishing right behind, Wilson clocked a time of 2:31.52 (personal record), finishing in second place.
In the one mile run, Leela Desharnais and Kristin Farabaugh took second and third place, clocking in times of 5:45.41 and 5:50.10.
The Firebirds dominated the 3,000 meter run, taking first through third place. Kylie Florance took gold in a time of 11:07.98. Camryn Lau and Kaitlyn Jerbi took second and third, clocking in times of 11:26.95 and 11:31.33.
JUMPS
Angelina Gersch placed second in the long jump, with a mark of 5.09 meters.
Two Firebirds placed second and third in the pole vault. Reese Teevan recorded a mark of 2.95 meters for a second place finish. Natalie Forward took third place with a mark of 2.65 meters.
THROWS
Lillian Townsend and Madison Payne led the Firebirds in the shot put. Townsend placed first with a mark of 12.82 meters, and Payne took second with a mark of 12.16m.
Payne threw 15.58 meters in the weight throw for a second place finish.
RELAYS
The Firebirds relay team (Shaylen Quinn, Forward, Wilson, and Farbaugh) took second place in the 400 meter relay, with a time of 4:27.38.
NCAA Performance List
In the shot put, Payne and Townsend are ranked in the NCAA Division III Indoor Qualifying List. Payne is ranked sixth with a mark of 13.50 meters, and Townsend is ranked 16th with a mark of 12.82m.
CCIW Performance List
Townsend has moved up the ranks in the shot put, ranking second after a performance of 12.82 meters.
Payne's 15.58-meter mark in the weight throw has put Payne in first in the CCIW.
