Liu Earns CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week Honors Following ITA Tournament

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Xingchen Liu of the Carthage women's tennis team has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Liu, a senior from Hefei, China, went 4-1 on the week at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Tournament in St. Peter, Minn. Liu started the singles tournament with a bye before defeating four straight opponents to reach the semifinals. Liu then fell in the semifinals to the top-seeded student-athlete in the bracket. Liu is now 8-3 on the season in singles play.

The Firebirds return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24 as the squad hosts Elmhurst at Smeds Tennis Center at 3 p.m. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
