KENOSHA, Wis. – The Carthage women's tennis team hosted the Elmhurst University Bluejays at Smeds Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. It was an efficient performance for the Firebirds, as the team made quick work of their opponent to claim the shutout victory

 

In doubles play, Rya Arreazola and Greta Peterson earned a 6-0 sweep over Anna Sophia Stone and Chloe Webb in No. 1 doubles. In No. 2 doubles, Niki Manojlovic and Jordan Miller defeated Olivia Grabowski and Olivia Hernandez 6-1. The Firebirds claimed the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. 

In singles play, Manojlovic kept the scoring going with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Grabowski in No. 3 singles. Bella Rizzo defeated Asma Hasan with a pair of 6-0 victories in No. 5 singles to give the Firebirds a 3-0 lead. Miller then earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hernandez in No. 4 singles to secure the team victory for the Firebirds. Arreazola used a 6-0, 6-3 performance to defeat Stone in No. 1 singles, while Peterson claimed the win over Webb in No. 2 singles with a pair of 6-1 victories. Valentina Huesca won in No. 6 singles by forfeit.

The Firebirds defeated the Bluejays 7-0.


 
The Firebirds (1-2) return to action on Friday, Oct. 3 as the team is set to play Millikin at 4 p.m. in Decatur, Ill. Carthage women's tennis returns to Smeds Tennis Center on Oct. 11 as the team hosts Augustana (Ill.)  For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
