Calhoun Breaks School Record in the Triple Jump, Firebirds Compete at Last Chance in Rock Island

ROCK ISLAND – The Carthage women's track and field team competed at Augustana College Wednesday and Thursday at the Midwest Twilight Qualifier. It was the final opportunity for the Firebirds to achieve marks that could qualify for the NCAA National Championships. The Firebirds closed out their season strong with multiple personal bests and a school record in the triple jump.

Who Led the Way

DISTANCE

Kylie Smith finished her career as a Firebird in the 5000m with a time of 19:17.70.

THROWS

Jackie Tuzil threw a personal best mark of 47.52m in the discus throw. Nicole Tarpley threw a mark of 45.23m, and Lillian Townsend threw a personal best mark of 43.57m.

Alexis Mattox threw a personal best mark of 56.97m in the hammer throw while Tarpley recorded a mark of 50.56m. 

Five Firebirds competed in the shot put, with Madison Payne leading the way with a mark of 13.60m. Mikayla Wright threw a mark of 13.41m. Mattox threw 13.14m, Townsend threw 12.72m, and Tuzil recorded a mark of 12.06m. 

JUMPS

Abbey Calhoun recorded a personal record and a new school record in the triple jump with a mark of 12.02m. 

Christina Hall recorded a mark of 5.44m in the long jump.

High Flyers

NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List

In the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List, Abbey Calhoun moves up one place (16th) in the triple jump with a mark of 12.02 meters. Calhoun broke the outdoor triple jump school record, which was previously 11.92 meters, that Calhoun held and set last year at the 2024 Wisconsin Private College Championships. 

Jackie Tuzil's personal record discus mark of 47.53 meters is now ranked sixth in Division III. Tuzil was previously ranked eighth last week. Additionally, Tuzil moves to fourth in the top 10 list for Carthage. 

Alexis Mattox is now ranked fifth in the hammer throw with a personal record mark of 56.97 meters. Mattox stays at second on the all-time performance list for the Firebirds.
