Women’s Track & Field Claimed Victory at Wisconsin Private College Championships

MILWAUKEE – The Carthage women's track and field team continued their outdoor campaign at the Wisconsin Private College Championships in Milwaukee, Wis. at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Throws dominated as the Firebirds claimed victory for the first time this outdoor season.

Team Results

The Firebirds placed first overall out of ten teams with 187 points. St. Norbert's was second with 180.50 points. Concordia (Wis.) was third with 112 points followed closely by Marquette with 105.50 points. Lawrence rounded out the top five with 42 points.
 
Who Led the Way

SPRINTS

Sarah Kerfin, Anna Kegel, and Caitlyn Hodgins placed third through fifth respectively adding 15 points towards the team score. Kerfin ran a time of 12.78, Kegel 13.06, and Hodgins ran a personal best time of 13.20. 

Kerfin added 10 more points to the team score, winning the 200m with a time of 26.13. 

Tara Schaalma placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:07.41. 

The 4x400m relay consisting of Mandy Nelson, Hodgins, Noelle Marsh, and Kristin Farabaugh placed fifth with a time of 4:25.57. 

DISTANCE

Katie Jerbi opened up the scoring for the Firebirds by winning the 10,000m with a personal best time of 43:16.98.

Kylie Smith and Jessie Pakaski both recorded personal bests in the 1500m with Smith placing fourth with a time of 4:53.89 and Pakaski placing seventh with a time of 4:57.08 scoring seven points for the Firebirds. Pakaski added another point in the 800m placing eighth with a time of 2:27.28. 

In the 5000m five Firebirds finished in scoring position with Kylie Florance winning the event with a time of 19:26.98. Claire Guenther and Arianna DeLeon finished third and fourth respectively with times of 20:28.94 and 20:38.51. Katherine Mahoney placed seventh with a time of 21:03.91 and Jackie Zaravia ran a personal best time of 21:04.13. 

JUMPS

Christina Hall won the long jump with a mark of 5.53m. 

Jadynn Kramer added a point placing eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 9.74m. 

Julia Kraus placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.38m. 

THROWS

Six Firebirds scored points in the shot put resulting in 30 points for the team. Mikayla Wright led the way winning the event with a throw of 13.27m. Madison Payne (12.73m), Jackie Tuzil (12.24m), Alexis Mattox (12.18m), Lillian Townsend (11.57m), and Makensie Pearson (10.85m) placed third through seventh respectively. 

The Firebirds added 30 more points in the hammer throw with five athletes scoring points. Nicole Tarpley won the event with a personal best throw of 51.09m with Mattox finishing close behind in second with a throw of 50.92m. Payne finished third with a mark of 44.09. Tuzil threw a personal best mark of 41.19m to place fifth and Wright placed sixth with a mark of 41.12m. 

Tarpley and Tuzil went 1-2 in the Discus with both athletes recording personal bests. Tarpley threw 45.61m and Tuzil threw 43.80m. Mattox placed fifth with a throw of 35.56m and Wright placed sixth throwing a personal best mark of 35.57m.

CJ Lange and Madison Payne placed fourth and sixth respectively in the javelin throw with marks of 31.01m and 29.34m. 

High Flyers

NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List

Wright's mark of 13.27 meters in the shot put, places Wright at 12th in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Qualifying List.

In the discus throw, Tarpley and Tuzil are ranked sixth and 12th with marks of 45.61m and 43.80m.

Tarpley's mark of 51.09 meters in the hammer throw, is currently ranked 13th in the NCAA.

CCIW Top Performances

In the 400 hurdles, Schaalma's time of 1:07.41 ranks first in the CCIW.

Wright's shot put mark is currently ranked third with 13.27m.

Two Firebirds, Tarpley and Tuzil, are currently ranked first and third in the discus.

Tarpley is also ranked in the hammer throw (third) with a mark of 51.09m.

The Firebirds will be back in action Saturday Apr. 12 where they will travel to Wheaton, Ill. to compete in the Wheaton College Invite at Wheaton College. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
