WHEATON – The Carthage women's track and field team traveled to Wheaton College for the Wheaton College Invite to continue their outdoor season. The Firebirds dominated in throws, claiming several top spots while also earning impressive finishes in distance races and jumps.



DISTANCE

Kylie Smith placed fifth in the 5000m with a time of 18:26.00. 

JUMPS

Christina Hall placed fifth in the long jump with a personal best mark of 5.50m. 

THROWS

The Firebirds placed six athletes in the top eight of the shot put, including the top four spots which were taken by Madison Payne (personal best mark of 13.21m), Alexis Mattox (12.71m) Lillian Townsend (personal best mark of 12.57m), and Mikayla Wright (12.14m). Jackie Tuzil and Makensie Pearson placed sixth and seventh with marks of 11.86m and 11.61m respectively.

Nicole Tarpley won the hammer throw with a mark of 50.53m. Mattox finished third in the event with a mark of 47.96m. Payne placed fifth with a mark of 44.39m. Hannah Lizano placed seventh with a mark of 40.62m with Tuzil close behind in eighth with a throw of 40.59m. 

Tarpley and Tuzil went 1-2 in the discus throw with marks of 40.68m and 40.52m respectively. Townsend placed sixth with a personal best throw of 37.73m. 

Teagan Johnston placed fourth in the javelin throw with a personal best mark of 33.45m. CJ Lange placed seventh in the event with a mark of 32.46m. 



The Firebirds will be back in action Thursday, Apr. 17 where they will travel back to Wheaton, Ill. to compete in the Don Church Twilight at Wheaton College. For more information, visit athletics.carthage.edu.
